West Wycombe Joiner

About

The business, under its current name, was formed in 2017 by Peter Skinner who brings almost 40 years’ experience within the building industry and an established tight knit team of skilled crafts and trades people.

Since its inception the team have converted two farm outbuildings to high specification residential accommodation, finished to an exceptional standard. Both of which are now comfortable and energy efficient homes with underfloor heating, air source heat pumps and the highest level of insulation available today. The final phase of the project was the conversion of a 500-year old, oak framed, Grade II listed barn to a large, four bedroomed property.

More recent projects have included the construction of a unique hardwood conservatory for a returning client and a complete refurbishment of a rental property, to a very high specification prior to being marketed for sale.

A Personal Introduction from Peter Skinner

In 2021 I relocated to Buckinghamshire, but I grew up in Sheffield Park, East Sussex, where my father was head gardener, and went to the local village school in Fletching. I have a lifelong love of the countryside and rural villages with their historic buildings. I am a fully qualified carpenter and joiner by trade, gaining my Advanced City and Guilds in carpentry and joinery in 1983.

I have spent my entire career using and honing those skills either working for my own construction companies or site and project managing for others.

Renovation, Restoration & New Build

Since the late 1980s, I have specialised in the renovation and restoration of period timber framed houses and barn conversions with some of my work featuring in national publications. Whilst gaining most of my work, in and around Sussex, I have also worked as a project manager on several prestigious developments around Chelsea and Kensington, in London.  I have managed and been involved with the construction of many new builds of oak framed buildings and garage complexes.

Since moving to Buckinghamshire I have worked on a large scale, architect designed, new build for a private client near Maidenhead and a Grade II listed manor house near Oxford.

Working Relationships

When working with you I believe in having a hands-on approach on site and making sure that you, as my client, are always kept informed of the ongoing works and you are comfortable with the progress of your project.  Although I may be carrying out much of the work, I may also be project managing for you and I maintain an active presence on site never forgetting that we are working in, or on,  your home. Consideration to you as a client is always paramount, from the conduct of our crafts and trades people to running a clean and tidy site.

I am passionate about old buildings and consider myself very fortunate to have been able to nurture that interest through my work. I’m fascinated by traditional building techniques, but also believe in embracing new technologies so that old buildings can be used efficiently and preserved for future generations.

What our clients say

"Mr Peter Skinner and his firm were employed by us to convert two extremely dilapidated farm cottages into this small house. A great deal of work was involved inlcuding building an extension and putting on a virtually new roof. The workmanship throughout was first class and much ingenuity was shown by Mr Skinner and his staff.

My wife and I are delighted with the result and should be pleased to show it to anyone interested by appointment."
